How to add page numbers to a PDF
- Choose or drop your PDF.
- Pick where the number goes, the format (1, 1 / 10 or - 1 -) and the number to start from.
- If it has a cover page, check "Don't number the first page".
- Click Add page numbers and download the file.
What is it for?
Contracts, theses, reports and long paperwork are often required with numbered pages. If your document came from a scanner or a program that doesn't number pages, this tool adds the number to every page in seconds.
The numbering is written into the PDF itself, on your device, so private documents are never uploaded. Everything else in the file stays the same, without recompression.
Limits to keep in mind
- Password-protected PDFs can't be opened; remove the password first.
- The number is written on top of the page: if the footer already has text in that spot, try another position.
- Rotated pages are numbered where you see them, not where they sit in the original file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed in your browser, on your device. Your file isn't sent anywhere.
How do I add page numbers to a PDF?
Load your PDF, choose the Position of the numbers (top or bottom, left, center or right) and the Format, then click Add page numbers and download the numbered file.
Can I start numbering from a different number?
Yes. In "Start at number" type any number you like, for example 5 if your PDF continues another document.
How do I leave the cover page without a number?
Check "Don't number the first page". The second page gets the starting number you chose.
Can it show "1 / 10"?
Yes. Choose the 1 / 10 format and each page shows its number and the total.
Does it reduce the quality of the PDF?
No. Only the number text is added; the original images and text aren't touched.
