How to calculate the tip
- Enter the bill total.
- Choose the tip percentage with the buttons or type it in.
- Say how many people are splitting it.
- See the tip, the total and how much each person pays.
How it's calculated
The tip is a percentage of the bill: 100 with a 10% tip is 10, and the total is 110. With 4 people, each pays 27.50. The calculator adds the tip to the total before splitting.
If you check round up, each person pays a whole number (for example, 110 split 3 ways is 36.67 and rounds up to 37), and the total collected ends up a bit higher than the bill: that difference becomes an extra tip.
Customs differ from country to country: in some places the tip is already included, and in others you leave between 10% and 20%. If you need to split more complex expenses, check out "Split expenses".
Things to keep in mind
- It splits evenly: if everyone ordered something different, use "Split expenses" with the item-by-item split.
- The percentage is applied to the total you enter, including taxes if there are any.
- Amounts are rounded to two decimals.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a 10% tip?
Enter the total and leave 10% selected (or tap the 10% button). The tip and the total with tip are shown.
How do I split the bill between several people?
Enter the number of people. The total with tip is divided equally.
What is rounding up for?
So each person pays a whole number and it's easier to collect the money; the leftover becomes an extra tip.
What if everyone ordered something different?
Use the "Split expenses" tool: it lets you split the bill item by item and works out who pays whom.
Is what I type saved?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser.
