How to play nonograms
- Choose the board size: 5×5 to start, 10×10 or 15×15 for a bigger challenge.
- The numbers beside each row and above each column tell you how many filled cells in a row there are, and in what order. There must be at least one empty cell between two groups.
- Tap or drag your finger to fill cells. Use the Cross button to mark the ones you know are empty, so you don't slip up.
- When a row or column matches its clues, those numbers fade. You win when all the clues are satisfied.
How to solve a nonogram
Nonograms, also known as Picross or Griddlers, are logic puzzles where you uncover a black-and-white picture. The clues for a line give the lengths of the filled blocks, from left to right or from top to bottom, and the blocks must be separated by empty cells.
To get started, look for lines with big clues: in a 10-cell line with the clue 8, the middle cells (from the third to the eighth) are always filled. Then cross out the cells that can't be filled and combine what you learn from rows and columns until it's solved.
Every puzzle on this page is generated on your device and checked to be solvable by logic alone, with no guessing: there is always exactly one solution. Everything happens in your browser; your game in progress and your best times are saved on your device.
Good to know
- Your best time only counts if you solve the puzzle without using hints.
- Your game and records are saved only in this browser: if you clear the site data, they are lost.
- On a phone, the 15×15 board may be wider than the screen: swipe sideways by touching the numbers.
Frequently asked questions
What is a nonogram?
It's a logic puzzle where you fill in cells of a grid according to the numbers for each row and column, until a picture appears.
What do the numbers mean?
Each number is the length of a group of consecutive filled cells. If a row says 3 1, there is a group of three cells and then, after at least one empty cell, a group of one.
Do I have to guess?
No. Every puzzle can be solved with logic alone and has exactly one solution.
What is the cross for?
To mark cells you know are empty. They don't count as mistakes or affect the result, but they help you reason it out.
Is it free? Do I need to install anything?
It's free, needs no sign-up and works right in your browser, on a phone, tablet or computer.
