How to split expenses between several people
- Add the people in the group with their names.
- Enter each expense: what it was, how much it cost, who paid and who shares it.
- See how much each person paid and how much they owe as their share.
- Follow the "Who pays whom" list to settle up with few payments, and copy the summary to send it on WhatsApp.
How expenses are split
For each person, what they paid is added up and what they owe according to the splits is subtracted: the difference is their balance. Someone with a positive balance gets money back and someone with a negative balance owes. All the balances always add up to zero.
To settle up, the person who owes the most pays the person who is owed the most, and this repeats until everyone is at zero: the result has at most one transfer fewer than the number of people. For example, if Ana pays 90 for a dinner among three, Ben and Cami each pay Ana 30.
You can split equally, by shares (a couple can be 2 shares), by percentages, by exact amounts or by items, for restaurant bills where everyone ate something different; the tip and taxes are split in proportion to what each person had. The split always comes out to the cent: if a division leaves a remainder, it is assigned to one person.
Things to keep in mind
- Groups are saved only in your browser and don't sync between devices; use the summary, the file or the link to share them.
- The group link contains the data: anyone who has it can see it, and each person gets their own copy.
- It works with a single currency per group and does not convert between currencies.

No. The group is saved in your browser. The share link carries the data inside it, in a part of the address that never reaches our server.
