How to crop an image
- Choose, drop or paste (Ctrl+V) your image.
- If you need a specific ratio, pick it: 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, etc.
- Drag the box and the corners until you frame what you want.
- Click Crop and download the image.
What is it for?
Cropping is useful for trimming extra edges, centering a face in a profile picture (1:1), preparing an image for a cover (16:9) or fitting a photo to the dimensions a form asks for.
The crop happens on your device: the image isn't uploaded. The crop keeps the original pixels, without scaling, so it doesn't lose sharpness beyond the compression of the format you choose.
Limits to keep in mind
- Images over 16 megapixels are scaled down slightly so the browser can process them.
- Animated GIFs are cropped as a still image (first frame only).
- If you choose JPG, transparent areas are filled with white.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The image is cropped in your browser and never leaves your device.
How do I crop a photo without installing an app?
Load your photo, adjust the Crop area over the part you want to keep (Free or a fixed Aspect ratio such as 1:1), click Crop and download it. It works right in your browser.
How do I crop it to a square?
Under "Aspect ratio" choose 1:1 and move the box until you frame what you want.
Does it lose quality when cropping?
Not from the crop itself, which doesn't scale the image. Only compression matters if you save as JPG or WebP; with PNG nothing is lost.
Can I crop from my phone?
Yes. You move and adjust the box by touching and dragging with your finger.
Can I paste a screenshot?
Yes. Copy the image and press Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V) on the page to load it.
