The formula and examples
To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32, multiply by 5 and divide by 9: °C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9. So 32 °F is 0 °C, 68 °F is 20 °C, 98.6 °F is 37 °C and 212 °F is 100 °C.
A mental shortcut to estimate: subtract 30 from the Fahrenheit degrees and halve it. 70 °F gives 20 °C, close to the real 21.1. This helps when reading forecasts, oven recipes or thermometers from the United States.
Good to know
