How to use the coin flip
- Decide which option is heads and which is tails before flipping.
- Tap "Flip coin" (or press the space bar).
- Check the result. If you flip several coins, you see how many landed on each side.
- The running total of heads and tails is kept below; tap "Reset count" to start from zero.
Heads or tails to decide
Heads or tails is the simplest way to break a tie or choose between two things: who starts, who pays, which movie to watch.
The coin is fair: each side has a 50% probability, chosen with the browser's random number generator. Getting several heads in a row doesn't make tails more likely on the next flip.
With many flips the count gets close to half and half, but with only a few flips it's normal for it to be uneven.
Things to keep in mind
- It's a virtual coin: it isn't valid proof for draws that require a third party or a notary.
- The count resets when you close or reload the page.
- The animation is only visual: the result is decided beforehand by the random generator.
