How to use the stopwatch
- Tap Start to begin timing (or press the space bar).
- While it runs, tap Lap to save a split time without stopping the stopwatch.
- Tap Pause to stop it and Resume to keep adding time. Reset sets it back to zero.
- In the laps table, the fastest lap is marked in green and the slowest in red. You can copy everything to paste into a spreadsheet.
What a stopwatch is for
It's useful for timing a race or a workout, comparing lap times, timing a presentation or finding out how long a task takes.
Each lap shows the split time (how long it took since the previous lap) and the running total, which is what you need to compare your pace.
It measures with the browser's high-precision clock, so it doesn't lose time even if the tab is in the background. Nothing you measure is sent to a server.
Good to know
- Laps and time are lost if you close or reload the page.
- Real precision depends on the device: the screen refreshes about 60 times per second, but time is calculated from the clock, not by counting frames.
- It is not an official stopwatch for competitions that require certification.
