How to generate a UUID
- Choose the version: v4 (completely random) or v7 (includes the time, so they sort in order).
- Enter how many you want, from 1 to 1000.
- If you need to, turn on uppercase or remove the dashes.
- Click “Generate” and copy the list.
What is a UUID
A UUID (universally unique identifier) is a 128-bit number written as 32 hexadecimal characters separated by dashes, for example 123e4567-e89b-42d3-a456-426614174000. It's used to identify records, files or sessions without needing a central counter.
Version 4 is completely random and is the most widely used. Version 7 starts with the date and time in milliseconds and ends with random values, so UUIDs created later sort after earlier ones. That makes it useful as a database key.
With 122 random bits, the chance of a UUID v4 repeating is negligible.
Things to keep in mind
- A UUID v7 includes the creation date and time, so don't use it if that information needs to stay hidden.
- A UUID is an identifier, not a secret: don't use it as a password or an access token.
- The UUIDs generated on this page aren't stored anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Can two UUIDs be the same?
In practice, no. A UUID v4 has 122 random bits, so the chance of a repeat is insignificant.
What's the difference between v4 and v7?
v4 is fully random. v7 starts with the time in milliseconds, so UUIDs sort by creation time.
What kind of randomness does it use?
Your browser's cryptographic generator (crypto.getRandomValues), which is designed for security uses.
Are the UUIDs I generate stored?
No. They're created in your browser and never sent to a server.
Is it free?
Yes, it's free, needs no sign-up and works right in your browser.
