How to use the metronome
- Set the tempo with the slider, with the − and + buttons, or by tapping «Tap tempo» at the pace you want.
- Choose how many beats the bar has and, if you like, a subdivision.
- Press «Start»: the first beat sounds louder and the dots show which beat you're on.
- Adjust the volume and stop the metronome when you're done.
What a metronome is for
A metronome keeps a steady pulse so you can practice at a stable tempo. It helps you learn a piece slowly and speed up bit by bit, work on your sense of pulse and rehearse with other musicians.
The sound is generated in your browser with high-precision scheduling, so it doesn't drift even if you open other tabs. Common tempos run from 60 BPM (slow) to 120 BPM (moderate) and over 160 BPM (fast); the Italian name of the tempo is shown under the slider.
Things to keep in mind
- Mobile browsers may pause the sound if you lock the screen or switch apps: the metronome stops on its own to avoid drifting.
- With headphones the sound is clearer and doesn't mix with your instrument.
- Volume and settings are saved only in this browser.
