How to add hours and minutes
- Choose whether you want to add and subtract times or calculate the hours between two times.
- To add, enter each time (1:30, 1h 30m, 90m…) and choose + or −. Use “Add time” to add more rows.
- For hours worked, enter the start time, the end time and the break in minutes.
- See the total in hours and minutes, in minutes and in decimal hours, and tap “Copy result”.
How the hours are calculated
An hour has 60 minutes, so 1:45 plus 0:30 is not 1:75 but 2:15. The calculator converts everything to minutes, adds or subtracts, and shows hours and minutes again. Decimal hours divide the minutes by 60: 1 hour 30 minutes is 1.5 hours and 8 hours 15 minutes is 8.25 hours.
Addition example: 1:30 + 0:45 − 0:20 = 1:55. Shift example: from 09:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute break is 8 hours (8.0 in decimal). A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 crosses midnight and lasts 8 hours.
Good to know
- Times are measured on a 24-hour clock without considering daylight saving changes.
- A bare number (like 1,5) is taken as hours.
- The result of a subtraction can be negative and is shown with a minus sign.
