Hijri to Gregorian date converter

Turn a Gregorian date into a Hijri date, or a Hijri date into a Gregorian one, using the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar or the civil calendar. You also see the day of the week and when each month of the Hijri year begins, Ramadan included. All in your browser.

What you type never leaves your device. Everything is calculated in your browser.

How to convert a Hijri date

  1. Pick the direction: “Gregorian → Hijri” or “Hijri → Gregorian”.
  2. Enter the date. For a Hijri date, type the day, choose the month by name and type the year.
  3. Choose the calendar: Umm al-Qura (the official one in Saudi Arabia) or the civil (tabular) calendar.
  4. See the converted date, the day of the week and the table with the start of the 12 months of the Hijri year.

What the Hijri calendar is and how it is converted

The Hijri (or Islamic) calendar is lunar: each month begins with the new moon and the year has 354 or 355 days, about 11 days fewer than the Gregorian year. That is why Hijri dates keep “shifting” through the seasons: Ramadan falls about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year. The era counts from the Hijra in the year 622, and years are written with the letters AH (Anno Hegirae).

There are several ways to fix the months. The Umm al-Qura calendar is the one Saudi Arabia uses officially and is calculated astronomically in advance; the civil or tabular calendar follows a fixed arithmetic rule. They can differ by one or two days. Examples with Umm al-Qura: 1 Ramadan 1447 falls on 18 February 2026, and 1 November 2026 is 21 Jumada I 1448.

Frequently asked questions

What is today's Hijri date?

It is shown above the tool, calculated from your device's date using the calendar you choose.

When does Ramadan start?

Choose “Hijri → Gregorian”, enter day 1, the month Ramadan (the 9th) and the year: you get the Gregorian date. In Umm al-Qura, 1 Ramadan 1447 is 18 February 2026.

Why can the result differ by a day from another website?

Because there are several calendars (Umm al-Qura, civil, moon sighting). Try the other calendar in the selector to compare.

Twelve, of 29 or 30 days each: Muharram, Safar, Rabi I, Rabi II, Jumada I, Jumada II, Rajab, Shaaban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhu al-Qadah and Dhu al-Hijjah.

Is the date I enter saved?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent to any server.
